Since I published my first Chinese home cooking course 3 weeks ago, I received a few feedbacks from my students that they would love to learn some Chinese vegetarian/vegan recipes.
Your wish is my command! :)
Vegetarian/Vegan Dishes In China
In Chinese cuisine répertoire, there are so many vegetarian/vegan dishes, cooked in so many interesting ways.
One reason is due to our dietary habits, especially for people from the south, vegetable is a MUST in every single meal.
Another reason is due to the vast types of vegetables that's available in China. If you got the chance, visit some local markets/supermarkets in China, it will be mind-opening to check those vegetables that might be alien to you.
Stir Fry Shredded Cabbage
Today, we are going to cook probably the cheapest and most versatile vegetable: cabbage. Although it's so vastly available, the cabbages can taste really boring if you can't find an interesting recipe.
Stir fry shredded cabbage is one of the simplest recipes, but it comes with style and CHARACTERS.
It's so classic that it's on the menu of most Chinese restaurants (in China). Simplicity is the beauty.
After cooking, the cabbage is coated with the vinegar-dominant sauce, infused with light garlic flavour, and most importantly, the taste of Sichuan pepper stays at the back of your tongue, giving you nice surprises. :)
